By The Moy

Musings by the river Moy in County Mayo.

“By The Moy” is a creative project about food and crafts you can put a face on, about artisans and artists, from farmers who grow the produce, to potters who draw inspiration from nature to craft the plates we put our food on.

The project also celebrates the community behind them. The local heroes who bet on local, seasonal and sustainable in their cafés and restaurants, their shops and galleries. It’s about the stories and emotions they inspire, which I capture in words and visuals.

Time to dust off this old camera and put my iPhone back in my pocket… The Master the art of food photography summit I joined back in June 2021 awoke a dormant passion. And I love how it all happened, like everything else in my life: one thing naturally leading to another, stars aligning and pieces of a puzzle connecting and clicking…
It started with talks of sourdough bread and gluten-free alternatives, and my best friend Damian gifting me Aran Goyoaga’s Cannelle et Vanille book a couple of years ago. A book that was not just about gluten-free baking, a book so beautiful, filled with stories, memories, experiences and stunning photographs, that it sits on my table top and doesn’t live on a shelf gathering dust. On my daily walks, I would listen to podcasts as far related from work as possible and I found Aran chatting with Kimberly Espinel from The Little Plantation. I subscribed to the podcast which in turn led me to Jena Carlin from Little Rusted Ladle and news of her annual food photography summit.
I have embarked on a journey to explore the rich and diverse languages of my local community through photography and stories. I hope you join me on this journey.
