More than just words

My name is Nathalie Moyano and I am “moytilingual”. I dream in English, I count in French and I swear in Spanish... Born to Spanish parents in France, I live and work in Ireland.

Besides working as a professional linguist and localization specialist, I am on a journey to explore the languages of local communities through photography and storytelling.

How my journey began

Thank you for dropping by!

My name is Nathalie Moyano González. I was born and raised in Southern France, my parents are from Andalucía in Spain and I carry both their surnames. I moved to Ireland in 2002 and it became my home away from home.

Everywhere I’ve lived in Ireland, from Dublin to Howth, Wicklow to Mayo, I would always search for local artisans, markets, delis and cafés, places with character, where people like to know you by name and welcome you home.

This is how I’ve made my home away from home.

When I think of the values that are most important to me, family and nature come first. In fact they’re very closely tied together. My dad is passionate about gardening and fishing and our back garden has given us an endless supply of vegetables and fruit for as long as I can remember. My mum starts her day by going through the daily harvest, sorting, peeling and chopping vegetables. She effortlessly whips up a meal bursting with colour and flavour, and turns a salad into a work of art but it’s “nothing special”. In fact, everything is special about it. I take after my parents and always start my day by going through my fresh produce and pantry supplies, to find inspiration and plan my meals ahead, before I eventually sit down for work. Sorting, peeling and chopping, a form of mindfulness meditation.
